2013

Dear Readers,

my schedule for this blog was about to explode when I started it this year. But like always: life interfered.

I'm still trying to figure out how to actually plan and organise a blog and it'll be a part of my new years resolution to learn it!

But although there are tons of unfinished posts tucked away for my blog, I wanted to make at least a small 2013 recap. So here we go, some favourites from 2013:

FAVOURITE BOOKS OF 2013:

DEREK LANDY - DEATH BRINGER (SKULDUGGERY PLEASANT #6) - My Love For Skulduggery Pleasant Increases With Every Book. Death Bringer Is By Far My Favourite Book In The Series At This Moment In Time. Just Like Everytime When I Speak Of This Book, I Want To Thank Derek Landy For Creating Characters, Who Keep Me Company In Good And Bad Times, And Are Inspiring And Badass.

SUSAN EE - ANGELFALL (PENRYN AND THE END OF DAYS #1) - Angelfall Is The First Book In The Penryn And The End Of Days Series By Susan Ee And Hell Yeah - What A Start! I Fell In Love With Penryn'sBravery, Raffe's Humour And The Concept Of The Whole Book. I Sucked In Every Conversation, Every Word And Every Oh So Precious Moment. Angelfall Did Surprise Me In The Most Pleasant Way And Is One Of The Books In 2013 For Me!

JOHN GREEN - THE FAULT IN OUR STARS - John Green Is A Great Author. It Takes Me 3 Pages To Feel Entertained And Light Hearted, But Mingled With A Serious Attitude Towards The Plot And The Problems. He Builds Up Atmosphere Like No Other Author And Plays With It In So Many Different And Small Details That It Is Something Quite Hard To Notice At First. But That's How It Works. The Fault In Our Stars Is My Favourite Books By John Green So Far And I'm Curious About How It'll Work On The Big Screen!

FAVOURITE SERIES OF 2013:

SHERLOCK - SEASON 2 - Season 2 Of The Successful BBC Series Sherlock Aired In January 2012 Already, But It Still Had A Huge Influence On My Whole Year Of 2013. Not Only Did I Visit Some Of The Filming Locations During My London Trip In September, But Also Gained Some New Friends Through It. My Favourite Episode Is "The Reichenbach Fall", My Favourite Character Is Sherlock Holmes, While My Favourite Actors From The Show Are Mark Gatiss And The Brilliant Martin Freeman. Sherlock's 3rd Season Premieres In The UK On January 1st And I'm Quite Positive About Its Continuing Influence On Me During 2014.

MISFITS - SEASON 1 & 2 - Earlier This Year, I Discovered Misfits, A Slightly Different, But Nevertheless Absolutely Entertaining Series From - Surprise! - The UK Again. I Purchased The Box Set With Season 1-4 In September In London And I'm In Love With It! My Favourite Seasons Are 1&2, Because I Am A Huge Nathan Fan, Though He's A Huge Douche Most Of The Time. Nevertheless, One Of THE Series In 2013 For Me!

FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST - Fullmetal Alchemist Is A Manga, Which Was Turned Into An Anime A Few Years Ago. Just To Clear Up Some Confusion: There Are Two Versions Of The Anime. The First One Follows The Story Arc Of The Manga Up To A Certain Point And Develops An Own Turn After That. The Second One - Brotherhood - Follows The Manga Up To Its End. There Is Also A Movie, Which Follows The Events Of The Anime. I Have Watched The First Version And I Love Ed And Al. Their Relationship Is Full Of Regret And Love And Promises As Hard Times, But Their Humour Is Awesome. Also, The Sometimes Philosophical And Morality Questioning Aspects And I Love That, Too. My Favourite Discovery From The Anime Section In 2013!

FAVOURITE MOVIES OF 2013:

THE HUNGER GAMES - CATCHING FIRE - Fast Paced, Epic, Different, Sometimes Funny, Sometimes Sad, But All In All A Work Of Perfection! I Watched This Movie 2 Times In One Week - More Often Than Any Other Movie This Year (although It Is Indeed Not That Much). I Think Jennifer Lawrence's Performance Is Marvelous And So Is Josh Hutcherson, Stanley Tucci, Woody Harrelson And Jena Malone. I Did Love How Sam Claflin Portrayed Finnick Odair And I'm So Looking Forward To His Performance In Mockingjay! This Movie Gave Me Shivers And So Did Its Score, Which Makes It One Of My Favourites Of The Year!

BEAUTIFUL CREATURES - Beautiful Creatures Is A Movie Adaption Of Beautiful Creatures The Book (also Known As 16 Moons In The First German Version) By Kami Garcia And Margaret Stohl And It Is Brilliant How They Transferred The Book Into This Very Special, Different But No Less Perfect Movie. I Enjoyed It So Much And I Was Completely Thrilled, Though People Who Watched It And Didn't Read The Book Before Did Say They Were Confused By Its Ending. That May Be A Critical Thing, But For Me - Completely Happy, Especially With This Fine Esemble - I Mean They Mentioned Emma Thompson And Jeremy Irons And I Was Already In! (And The Trailer Was The Most Awesome Trailer In 2013!! So Epic!)

THE HOBBIT - DESOLATION OF SMAUG - Surprise, Surprise! One Of The Most Anticipated Movies Made It Into My Top 3 Of 2013. No, But Seriously - It Is Very Surprising To Me! For Me, An Unexpected Journey Wasn't Exactly Awesome. It Was More Or Less A Bit Boring. I Felt Like They Were Stretching It A Bit Too Far. Watching It For The First Time, It Was Okay. Considering Watching It A Second TimeNah, Thank You. So My Expectations Weren't All Too High When I Finally Managed To Watch Desolation Of Smaug Last Saturday And I Wasn't Exactly Thrilled To My Bones, Especially When I Had To Take A Seat In The Second (!) Row. First Few Minutes Felt Like A Tennis Match - Ork Left, Elf Right, Hobbit Middle, Dwarf Slightly Left, Legolas Above - But I Got Used To It After A While, Because This Movie Was Absolutely Amazing! It Wasn't Exactly A Lord Of The Rings Feeling, But Something Very Own And Unique. I Loved It. I Loved The Characters, I Loved Thranduil (and I Can't Wait For The Battle Of The Armies!!), I Loved Kili (as Always) And Bard Wasn't Too Bad Either! The Only Thing I Didn't Enjoy As Much As Most Of The Other People Was Smaug - Probably Because I Kinda Fell For The Benedict Cumberbatch Hype And ReallyIt Wasn't That Brilliant! But It Contributed Nicely To A Brilliant Movie!

FAVOURITE SCORES OF 2013

MAN OF STEEL - HANS ZIMMER

CATCHING FIRE - JAMES NEWTON HOWARD

DOCTOR WHO (AT THE PROMS) - MURRAY GOLD

THOR - THE DARK WORLD - BRIAN TYLER

SHERLOCK - SEASON 2 - MICHAEL PRICE & DAVID ARNOLD

AND WHAT TO EXPECT IN 2014:

2013 was full of amazing books, movies, series and scores and 2014 looks like it wants to take the pace up another notch! Here are just a few of the things I'm looking forward to!

Books:

DREAMS OF GODS AND MONSTERS - LAINI TAYLOR: Highly Anticipated Conclusion Of The Daughter Of Smoke And Bone Trilogy!DATE TO MARK IN YOUR CALENDER: 8TH OF APRIL 2014

SILBER: DAS ZWEITE BUCH DER TR UME - KERSTIN GIER: Kerstin Gier's Second Book In Her New Series Silber. Absolutely Excited About This One, Since The First One Was A Nice Start, But I'm Sure Mrs. Gier Can Take It Up To An Even Higher Level.

DATE TO MARK IN YOUR CALENDER (german Release): 26TH OF JUNE 2014

OPPOSITION (LUX SERIES #5) - JENNIFER L. ARMENTROUT: Another Final Book Of A Series In 2014. This One Concludes Jennifer L. Armentrout's Amazing Lux Series, Centering Around Katy And Incredibly Hot Daemon Black. Since The Last Book Ended With A Huge Cliff Hanger - Which Expands To Bigger Dimensions Like An Extraterrestrial War - I Am Super Excited For This Book. Especially BecauseDaemon. Yum.

DATE TO MARK IN YOUR CALENDER: 5TH OF AUGUST 2014

UNTITLED SKULDUGGERY PLEASANT #9 - DEREK LANDY: I Haven't Even Read Last Stand Of Dead Men, which Is The Newest Book In The Series, And I'm Already So Excited For Book Nine! (Probably Because Derek Landy Twittered That He Finally Made A Move On Tanith Low's DestinyWas About Time, But At The Same TimeI'M SCARED) This Book Series *sigh*

DATE TO MARK IN YOUR CALENDER: 28TH OF AUGUST 2014

Series:

There is so much in store concerning Series in 2014 - I mean, we're starting the year with Sherlock, wow? - but beside Sherlock and Doctor Who and the other usual suspects, there is only one series I'm really looking forward to:

OUTLANDER

The series is the adaption of the hugely successful book series "Outlander" by Diana Gabaldon, which is one of my all time favourite series. It deals with the faith of Claire Randall, a young nurse in the UK just after WWII. One day, she steps through a stone in a stone circle and finds herself in the 18th century. From that point on, the book series is a feast of love, betrayal, hope, death and life. A possible date, when the series will air, isn't yet confirmed. (And - surprise! - it won't air in Germany, which means I kind of have to wait anyway) Nevertheless, absolutely one of my personal Series highlights in 2014!

Movies:

There are many awesome movies to come in 2014 - many of them are book adaptions - and here are just a few of them:

VAMPIRE ACADEMY - FEBRUARY 2014: Movie Adaptation Of Richelle Mead's Famous Vampire Academy Book Series. (I'm Curious And Afraid About This One.)

DIVERGENT - MARCH 2014: Movie Adaptation Of Veronica Roth's Bestselling Book Divergent, First One In A Trilogy. Looks Absolutely Amazing, Especially Theo James As Four. (And Come On, We All Want To See Shailene Woodley And Ansel Elgort Before They'll Bring The Fault In Our Stars To Life Just A Few Months Later!)

HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 2 - JUNE 2014: Loved The First Movie, It Was Too Cute, Really! So Naturally, I'm Looking Forward To A Return Of Toothless And His Companions!

CAPTAIN AMERICA - THE WINTER SOLDIER - MAY/APRIL 2014: It'll Be Interesting To See Steve Rogers Return, Because He's The Only One Of The Marvel Characters With Own Movies We Haven't Seen After The Big Avengers Battle Of New York Yet!

Other Movies In 2014 Will Be THE FAULT IN OUR STARS (JUNE), MOCKINGJAY PART 1 (NOVEMBER), SAPHIRBLAU [SECOND INSTALLMENT OF KERSTIN GIER\'S RUBYRED] (AUGUST) and THE HOBBIT - THERE AND BACK AGAIN (DECEMBER).

Wheow! I think I can hear my purse groaning at the sight of all these books to buy and the movies to watch, but it's gonna be so worth it!

What are you most excited for in 2014? Books? Movies? Series?Let me know!

All the best for 2014! See you next year

xx
